He also honed his skills as a Fellow at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in Montgomery, Alabama, working in each area of Appellate Litigation. Leroy also provided legal assistance to the poor while addressing systemic issues perpetuated by unfair criminal justice policies through community outreach, education, and policy reform. Throughout his career, he has won millions of dollars for both personal injury and civil rights clients.
Bessemer, Alabama, native, Ontario J. Tillman brings his dedication to community and law practice to Maxwell Tillman. It is his love and understanding of his community’s needs that drive his effort to ensure appropriate sensitivity shown to his clients to ensure justice is served. Before joining the team, Ontario developed his skills working on criminal, family law, and civil litigation cases at both the state and federal levels. He places his clients’ best interests first, whether in an investigation, litigation, or negotiation, fighting for his client each step of the way.
Maxwell Tillman attorney, Matthew A. Bailey, developed his skills during many years leading the Post-Conviction and Appellate department at one of Alabama’s leading criminal defense firms. There, he was involved in a range of cases, spanning from misdemeanors to capital murder. He brings this experience to the team where he mainly works on criminal and civil appeals, civil rights cases, and pardons and paroles. He guides each client through the complex legal process and ensures they understand the ins and outs of their case.
Our newest attorney, Austin Russell, joined the team in 2017 as a law clerk. He takes on employment, civil rights, and general civil litigation cases at Maxwell Tillman. Prior to joining us, Austin graduated from Auburn University with a B.A. in Political Science (Cum Laude) and earned his Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law.
